About COP

COP was formed in 2007 by Hardi Baktiantoro, specifically to tackle the cause of the deforestation and the deaths of tens of thousands of orangutans. We are the only all-Indonesian group of  its kind to take on these issues.

Palm oil companies are without doubt the cause of so much deforestation and literally the genocide of orangutans.

Whenever we can we expose what they do, help rescue any orangutans (usually babies – their mothers having been shot or slashed to death with a machete) and we help local villagers resist approaches from palm oil companies and loggers.

Only COP does this difficult and often dangerous work.

Where forest once stood and orangutans lived. Cleared for a new oil palm plantation.
